As Destination Strategist for Crosscurrent, Nicole draws from her experience in rural tourism development in the Columbia River Gorge, focusing on public transit, accessibility, and collective action. Her work has been awarded the Rising Star award by Travel Oregon. She came to the Portland area after completing her degrees in Tourism at the Harz University of Applied Sciences in Germany and Southern Oregon University. Both bachelor’s degrees focused on the development of sustainable tourism. She concluded her studies by writing a thesis about tourism networks and sustainable development. She now lives in Portland after having grown up in rural Germany for most of her life. In her free time, she can usually be found rowing boats very quickly on the Willamette River.
