Jim has combined two worlds to build unique expertise in tourism and community development. As the Executive Director of Bicycle Rides Northwest, an Oregon bike-tour nonprofit, Jim is responsible for planning and executing large-scale road-bike tours for up to 300 riders. In this position he partners with multiple communities for each tour, bringing together stakeholders to create the best experience for the visiting riders. But Jim’s connections and capabilities run much deeper than that. As the owner of the creative firm Word Jones for 24 years, he delivered copywriting, brand development, creative campaigns and marketing strategy for clients including Travel Oregon, Oregon Scenic Bikeways, Cycle Oregon, Portland Bureau of Transportation and TriMet. Between his marketing work for Cycle Oregon, his written descriptions of Oregon’s Scenic Bikeways, his authorship of 75 Classic Rides: Oregon (The Mountaineers) and his extensive route-planning throughout the Northwest, Jim has developed an encyclopedic knowledge of routes, and connections in communities throughout the Northwest. After collaborating with Kristin on a Crosscurrent project in Northeast Washington, Jim brought a successful BRNW tour there in July 2024. With the combination of deep background and stellar communication and strategy skills, he offers a singular resource for tourism destination development.
