Crafting powerful communications that foster destination development
Jim has combined two worlds to build unique expertise in tourism and community development. As the owner of Word Jones, a creative firm he founded in 1999, he has delivered copywriting, brand development, creative campaigns and marketing strategy for clients including Travel Oregon, Oregon Scenic Bikeways, Cycle Oregon, Portland Bureau of Transportation and TriMet. He wrote and managed Travel Oregon’s cycling website content, wrote the descriptions for Oregon’s Scenic Bikeways, co-created annual themed marketing campaigns for Cycle Oregon, and built an entire promotional campaign for Neighborhood Greenways for PBOT. Branching out from his work with Cycle Oregon, Jim was hired to create and direct the Cycle Greater Yellowstone and Cycle Adirondacks bike tours for environmental nonprofits Greater Yellowstone Coalition and Wildlife Conservation Society, respectively. In 2018 he became Executive Director of Bicycle Rides Northwest, an Oregon bike-tour nonprofit. In addition, he is a travel writer and the author of 75 Classic Rides: Oregon (The Mountaineers). With his encyclopedic knowledge of routes and communities throughout the Northwest, combined with his communication and strategy skills, Jim offers a singular resource for tourism destination management.
