Dan Moore

Raising standards, quality and sustainability in travel

Dan has 20+ years of experience as an entrepreneur, professional travel guide and workshop facilitator, with specific expertise in adventure tourism and outdoor recreation. As COO of a Pacific Northwest-based tour operator, he learned best practices for tour company operations, including guide training, permitting, sustainability and staff management, and he’s subsequently expanded that knowledge over nearly a decade consulting for adventure travel businesses. Dan has designed and facilitated numerous workshops for communities on the frontlines of adventure tourism, helping them develop sustainable strategies to harness their nature and recreation assets for economic and community benefit. Dan has an easy, comfortable and confident demeanor, putting people at ease with his presentation style and interpersonal communications skills. He provides a fine balance between teaching and inspiration – leading communities and groups to their own conclusions, goals and targeted plans.

In 2015 Dan led the team that created the first international adventure travel guide standard (ATGS), and he continues to serve on board of this global initiative. He’s applied the ATGS standard to create cutting-edge guide-training courses, and delivered them around the world. He also teaches ecotourism, adventure travel and guide training at Peninsula College in Washington state. Dan is an avid birder and enjoys cross-country skiing as well as hiking with his dog, Rusty.
